AS-scam.jpgScammers have targeted the more lucrative aspect of Standards Australia’s operation, the sale of standards specifications. In case you are not aware, Standards Australia has an exclusive deal with a private company, SAI Global, to print and sell the specifications for all the standards adopted. Downloading a Standards specification document can cost up to $500 per copy.

This has attracted the attention of fraudsters who have posted a counterfeit Standards Australia web site and are offering AS specifications and reports for sale. The scam site is located at www.asstandards.com which links to http://www.asnzs.org. The problem for anyone who has been deceived is twofold, not only will they lose the purchase price, to make the transaction the buyer must register with the site giving a page of personal information along with their credit card details.

Safe Work ReportAccording to Safe Work Australia, you are 3.5 times more likely to be fatally injured at work if you are self-employed. The report released on the 15th of July, 2014, indicates a positive trend, recording the lowest work-related deaths in eleven years.

The report found that 191 workers died from injuries received at work in 2013.

Safe Work Australia’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Michelle Baxter stated, “While we have seen a 16 per cent reduction in work-related deaths since 2012 (228), this does not mean workers should become complacent about reducing and eliminating risks while working.”

She went on to say, “This report serves as a reminder that self-employed workers still have the same legal requirements as an employer to ensure their own health and safety is maintained while at work, as well as the safety of people entering their workplace.

Infinity "Testing has found that the cables will degrade prematurely and if the cables are disturbed, the insulation could break and expose live conductors, resulting in possible electric shock or fires," ACCC Chairman Rod Sims said.

With as many as 40,000 homes and businesses involved, the commission is so concerned it has formed a special taskforce involving consumer agencies and building and safety regulators to execute a nationwide product safety recall.

Mr Sims said that “this recall serves as a reminder that companies sourcing or accepting products from less expensive overseas suppliers must have quality assurance processes in place to ensure the safety of consumers”.
